Shadow Chi's Grimoire RSS

Archive

After a person dies their soul is led into a hall of judgment in Duat by Anubis (god of mummification) and the deceased's heart, which was the record of the morality of the owner, is weighed against a single feather representing Ma'at (the concept of truth and order). If the outcome is favorable, the deceased is taken to Osiris, god of the afterlife, in Aaru, but the demon Shadow Chi (Eater of Hearts) – part crocodile, part lion, and part hippopotamus – destroys those hearts whom the verdict is against, leaving the owner to remain in Duat.

Turns out the guy that wrote the book also wrote the screenplay.  I liked the movie better in a lot of ways, but I thought the changed ending sort of wrecked what I thought the book was about, changing it from an “inevitability of death, watch it wreck your brain or not” story to a “fear of disease, you’re all gonna catch it” story (which is pretty different even though most of the surface elements are the same; look at my movie critic hat) which I think is a more common theme that I’m kind of tired of.  Maybe I didn’t get the book or maybe they Hollywooded it up for the movie.  Pretty good movie anyway.

Searching for the Carolann song led to searching for the Archie song, God bless the Internet.  Trey still gets the best song, though, of course.

Kelley Jones is awesome.  I’m really digging Batman Unseen and, bonus, it comes out every other week.  Can’t wait for Cap Reborn to be over so we can get back on track.  I was very pleased by C-Note’s observation that this was issue 4 of 5 because I thought this was going to be like 8 parts, and I really couldn’t handle that.  Warlord - excellent as always.  Grell is an awesome writer and the last two issues have featured his killer art as well, right on.  That Daredevils cover is from the cover gallery section of some reprints I got out of the 50 cent bin.  Old Captain Britains can’t be beat.  Haven’t read the two I just picked up yet, but I’m having a great time just looking at the pictures so far.  Alan Davis is the man and I think we all know how I feel about the good captain’s costume.

Spent most of yesterday afternoon sitting in my courtyard reading some messed up book, and me and C-Note were like, man, we need a comedy to lighten things up around here, let’s go see Invention of Lying, Ricky Gervais is funny.  I thought it was an awesome movie, but, man, this was not a light, fun time.  Here’s what The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops had to say: “Along with his co-writer and co-director Matthew Robinson, Gervais launches an all-out, sneering assault on the foundations of religious faith such as has seldom if ever been seen in a mainstream film, despicably belittling core Judeo-Christian beliefs and mocking both the person and the teaching of Jesus Christ. Pervasive blasphemy, some sexual humor and references, and a few rough and crude terms.  O — morally offensive.“  Also, it’s really funny and kind of sad.  In other words, recommended.
